She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me." Genesis 16:13
God Sees You in the Wilderness
Key Truth: Hagar was rejected, mistreated, and alone in the desert, yet she was not invisible to God. He saw her pain, her tears, and her future.
Scripture Anchors:
Genesis 16:7-13: God finds Hagar by a spring in the wilderness.
Psalm 34:15: “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry.”
Exodus 3:7: God says, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people.”
Consider This: When life feels lonely and you "feel" unseen, remember that El Roi, the God who sees, is watching with carefully with compassion and care. He does not look away from your pain. He sees the details that others overlook, and His sight is never distant or distored. God’s seeing is active. It moves Him toward you with love, mercy, and provision. Just as He met Hagar in the wilderness, He meets you in your hurting places, offering direction, hope, and reassurance that you are not forgotten.
Reflection Questions:
Have you ever felt unseen, overlooked, or forgotten?
How does it comfort you to know that God not only sees you but comes to find you?
What would you say to Him if you knew He was watching and listening right now?
Application: Write in your journal: “El Roi sees me when…” and finish the sentence with the situation you are walking (not standing or sitting in) through. Let it remind you that you are never invisible.
Prayer: “Lord, thank You that You are El Roi, the God who sees me. When I feel forgotten or alone, remind me that Your eyes are always on me. Help me rest (release every situtation to God) in Your presence, even in my wilderness seasons. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Declaration: “I am seen, known, and covered by El Roi,. He meets me in the middle of all my muddy moments with mercy, love, purpose, and provision.”
