The Courage to Stay

Key Truth: Pursuing God’s plan will test your faith, but when your focus is fixed on the Creator of the plan, you are guaranteed to be triumphant. The wind is temporary, but the Word is eternal.

Scripture Anchors:

Matthew 14:27, 30-31

Isaiah 40:8

Hebrews 12:2

Consider This: Last week, we found the courage to leave the boat. But as every Water Walking Woman learns, the miracle doesn't stop the storm. Matthew 14:30 tells us that Peter was doing the impossible until he "saw the wind." The wind didn't change the power of Jesus and it didn't change the Word that called him out there. The only thing that changed was Peter’s focus.

Having a fixed focus is the essential ingredient for pursuing God’s plan. The "winds" of life, such as unexpected bills, health scares, or family transitions, will come and go. They are designed to make you look down at your problems instead of up at your Provider. However, when your focus is locked on the Author and Finisher of your faith, you gain a supernatural perspective.

A fixed focus allows you to walk on the very thing that is trying to drown you. It reminds you that the plan wasn't your idea; it was God's. Since He is the Creator of the plan, He is also the Sustainer of the path. When the wind blows, don't look at the waves; look at the One who commands them. You are not standing on the stability of the water; you are standing on the immutability of His Word.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What "wind" started blowing the moment you stepped out in faith?

  2. How does shifting your focus from the "problem" to the "Provider" change your level of peace?

  3. In what area of your life do you need to tell the wind, "You are temporary, but my God's Word is forever"?

Application:

This week, practice "Focus Control." Every time a distracting thought or an unsettling report tries to pull your eyes away from God's plan, pause and declare Hebrews 12:2. Intentionally look past the storm to see the Savior standing right in front of you.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for being the Author of my path. I admit that the wind has been loud lately, and I have been tempted to look at the waves. Today, I choose to re-fix my focus on You. I believe that Your Word is more real than my circumstances. Give me the courage to stay on the water, knowing that as long as my eyes are on You, I cannot sink. I am triumphant because You are with me. In Jesus’ name-Amen.

Closing Declaration: I will not be moved by what I see, hear, or feel. The wind is temporary, but God’s Word is eternal. I stand on His promises, not my circumstances. As I keep my eyes on Jesus, I have the courage to stay, the faith to stand, and the confidence to walk in triumph. I am covered, sustained, and upheld by the Creator of the plan.
